AVSTS Meeting in Swindon

AVSTS Meetings

The AVSTS or “Association of Veterinary Soft Tissue Surgeons” is the soft tissue satellite group of BSAVA.  Members include specialist surgeons and general practitioners from the UK and abroad who share a passion and enthusiasm for soft tissue surgery. The Association is thriving with around 200 members currently. If you are not a member, you can click HERE to join.

Two meetings are held every year. The Spring meeting is held on the Wednesday before BSAVA congress whilst the Autumn meeting is usually held in October.

Tim is arranging this year's Autumn meetng which is being held in Swindon on 16th and 17th October. The theme is:

“Not the Usual Emergency Stick Injury in DogEmergency”.

The meeting will focus on discussing management and treatment of some of the emergencies that we are all faced with from time to time but that are not often discussed in detail. We have managed to line up a great list of lecturers all of whom are experts in their fields.  We have prominent surgeons discussing their approach to acute thoracic disease, facial reconstructions, tracheostomies and stick injuries but we also have experts from other, related disciplines giving us an overview of some of the related topics. This year we are being joined by specialists in ophthalmology, dentistry and anaesthesia who will discuss management of acute ocular trauma, dental/maxillofacial trauma and the anaesthetic implications of acute head and thoracic trauma patients.

Online registration is now open and vets can register by clicking HERE

The meeting is held in the four star Swindon Mariott hotel and the social program will include the gala dinner on the Friday night.  This year we hope to provide a “casino night” where delegates can play (pretend money only!) roulette black-jack etc with prizes for the best/luckiest delegates of the night.

We aim to provide top-quality CPD but at an affordable price with the society simply aiming to break even. AVSTS prides itself in being a very friendly organisation with vets from primary and referral practices contributing equally to often very lively discussions during the conference.  We welcome any queries and would love to see some new faces (as well as the old) in Swindon in October!
