Vim Kumaratunga Joins Eastcott Referrals


Vim Kumaratunga Ophthalmology Referral VetWe are pleased to welcome Vim Kumaratunga to the Ophthalmology team. 

Vim qualified from Bristol University in 2005 and spent nearly 7 years in general first opinion practice, working for the two largest veterinary groups in Bristol and a period locuming throughout the South West.

Vim has worked as a referral ophthalmologist since attaining the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Certificate in Veterinary Ophthalmology in 2012 and was granted Advanced Practitioner status in 2015. He worked at a multi-disciplinary veterinary referral hospital in Bristol before joining the team at Eastcott Referrals in July 2018.

Vim is happy to see all ophthalmology referrals and has a special interest in complex oculoplastic/eyelid surgery, corneal surgery and ocular manifestations of systemic disease. He is currently advancing his cataract surgery skills.

Having developed a strong interest in exotic species, Vim is keen on the ophthalmology of unusual pets and wildlife. He has been fortunate to examine a wide range of species from parrots and reptiles to elephants and leopards.

Vim enjoys teaching and has lectured in the UK and abroad. In his previous position, he was responsible for the mentoring of veterinary graduate interns. He is also keen to educate the public on animal health, welfare and conservation matters through the media. He was a presenter on the BBC 2 Trust Me I’m a Vet series and a panelist on the Curious Creatures show.

Vim is passionate about providing gold standard care to his patients and is committed to offering a friendly and efficient service to clients and referring clinicians alike. He is happy to be contacted via email or phone to offer ophthalmology advice to general practitioners.
