Tracheal Collapse In Dogs

Tracheal collapse is a debilitating condition. Whilst medical management will provide sufficient control for the majority of these cases, most severely affected dogs will benefit from surgical intervention. It affects toy and small-breed dogs especially Yorkshire Terriers, Miniature Poodles, Pomeranians, Chihuahuas and Pugs.

Intraluminal stenting offers a new way to treat dogs with severe tracheal collapse.  Stenting can simultaneously support both cervical and thoracic segments of the trachea and avoids invasive surgery and the associated potential complications of neurovascular compromise.

All stenting procedures are performed by our Sepecialist Soft Tissue Surgeon Tim Charlesworth using new generation Nitinol stents (pictured above). Cases are usually discharged the same day with the deployed stent providing immediate relief.
