Soft Tissue Surgeon, Filippo Cinti becomes a Diplomate

Eastcott’s surgical team now boasts five surgeons

Filippo Cinti, who joined Eastcott Referrals, in Swindon, as a soft tissue surgeon in 2018, has now become a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons.  His success means Eastcott’s surgical team now boasts five surgeons, including the newly-recruited Andrew Philips, who is also a European Specialist in Small Animal Surgery.

Head of surgery Tim Charlesworth said: “Filippo’s success and Andrew’s arrival mean a significant expansion of our talented team. “It means we now have more depth to our team and can now offer even more expert care and first-class treatment to all of our referring vets and their clients.”

Eastcott’s surgical team is supported by interns, augmented by an excellent team of dedicated nurses, and works closely with its recently-expanded internal medicine, anaesthesia and ECC services.

Filippo is certainly looking forward to playing an even more prominent role now he has achieved specialist status. He said: “Becoming a Diplomate is a big step, you have a lot of competence, knowledge and skills but also a lot of responsibility.”

The training and exams to become a European Specialist are very hard. There is a lot of studying and clinical cases, and you don’t have a lot of free time. They have been difficult, but also very rewarding years. Now with this new position at Eastcott, I would like to do more specialist surgeries such as thoracic, vascular and minimally-invasive procedures.”

Filippo graduated from the University of Bologna (Italy) in 2009, before going on to work as a surgeon in the university’s teaching hospital, while also studying for his PhD.

He completed a three-year European College of Veterinary Surgeons approved residency programme in small animal surgery in 2017, while in 2018 he achieved the Certificate in Small Animal Soft Tissue Surgery (GPCert- SASTS).
