Total Hip Replacement Surgery
Total hip replacement at Eastcott Referrals Swindon
During the last 5 years, we have developed a well-established total hip replacement programme at Eastcott Referrals using the Biomedtrix Universal Hip system. We are able to offer this life-enhancing surgery to a wide range of patients from cats and toy dogs to giant breed dogs. Total hip replacement is an extremely effective treatment for a variety of conditions affecting the hip including hip dysplasia, osteoarthritis, failed femoral head and neck excision, complex femoral head fractures or femoral head necrosis (Legg-Calve-Perthes disease). We are always keen to see potential cases early on in the progress of disease. This allows us to discuss all the options for treatment, the expected outcomes and potential complications that could be encountered. We believe that it is important to ensure that owners are thoroughly counselled prior to embarking on surgery and will usually recommend an initial course of aggressive conservative treatment. If successful, this can allow surgery to be avoided or postponed, but will also optimise the physical condition of animals which do go on to have total hip replacement. Surgery is performed by our experienced orthopaedic team led by RCVS Recognised Specialist in Orthopaedic Surgery, Duncan Barnes. We are happy to discuss any potential cases with you prior to referral by phone or email.
