Bristol Zoo Announces the Death of Kamal its Asiatic Lion

Eastcott Veterinary Referrals dental team went to Bristol Zoo to perform a root canal filling on his fractured canine tooth in 2011. We are verry sad to hear the announcement that Kamal has died.

Endodontic treatment is a specialist technique that allows the preservation of some fractured teeth and avoids extraction which often involves an invasive surgical procedure. The endodontic treatment of Kamals tooth presented an additional challenge as the root of his canine tooth was about 9cm long! We had to order special extra long endodontic files from America.

Above all we were struck with what an impressive creature he was and how fortunate we were to be involved in his treatment. The Zoo’s Vet, Nurses and Keepers were dedicated and really cared for him and we extend our sympathy to them.
