Our specialist-led Diagnostic Imaging team provides support to all departments across the hospital.
Diagnostic imaging is a pivotal part of the diagnostic process, narrowing down the likely causes of disease and allowing the clinicians to understand the best way forwards in achieving a definitive diagnosis and treatment plan.
Whether it’s assessment of acute or chronic disease including staging of cancer patients, or pre-surgical evaluation, the work of the team is crucial. We can investigate all manner of conditions affecting any part or system of the body, from the bones to the brain.
Imaging is frequently used to guide biopsies of diseased organs that are otherwise inaccessible, or to find and retrieve foreign bodies. Both applications are extremely useful and can avoid the need for more invasive surgery.
Our diagnostic imaging capabilities include:
- A Siemens 1.5T high-field MRI scanner
- A 64 slice CT scanner
- Ultrasound unit
- Multiple digital X-ray rooms with auto-exposure facility
- A high-end fluoroscopy unit for real time X-ray viewing in and outside the operating theatre
- Video endoscopy
